Premier League weekend grades: Nigel Winterburn gives his verdict

Tottenham B With Tottenham being the home team against a Liverpool team that are expected to beat, I think I'd grade Spurs with a B. I thought it was a solid performance by them. Liverpool B+ From where Liverpool have been, people expected a reaction following Jurgen Klopp's appointment as manager - and they got it. It was pretty even at White Hart Lane though, with not much to separate the sides. Jurgen Klopp was held to a goalless draw in his first game as Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was held to a goalless draw in his first game as Liverpool manager Chelsea B- Chelsea have lost their way this season so far but still managed to get the win. They are not 100 percent convincing yet from where they were last season, but it was certainly an improvement, they needed the victory. They are searching for their best form but confidence is a key thing and that result will help. Aston Villa C+cr7specialedition

Villa are really struggling but the performance was positive, despite the fact they lost. It was a difficult game for them and they need results quickly. Crystal Palace C I thought aspects of the game were good for Palace but losing at home has affected my grade. Losing any player in a Premier League game is significantly going to hamper your chances and usually hands the initiative to your opponent, and it proved that way. Dwight Gayle's dismissal swung the game in West ham's favour Dwight Gayle's dismissal swung the game in West ham's favour West Ham A- I was very impressed by West Ham. Their away form has been sensational and Palace are a strong, energetic team at home. They made some good tactical substitutions when it looked as though they weren't going to make the breakthrough. The sending off did affect the game but so did the changes late on. Everton C- Everton have been playing really well this season but they were completely flat on Saturday. Obviously, the circumstances surrounding the game wouldn't have helped them but they needed to be professional and it was just a flat performance. Perhaps coming off an international break affected them as well.

Ex-Spurs defender Ramon Vega keen on FIFA president's role

Ramon Vega pictured at the recent Soccerex gathering in Manchester Former Tottenham defender Ramon Vega looks set to declare his candidacy to replace Sepp Blatter as president of FIFA. Vega, whose other teams included Celtic and Watford, is expected to officially announce his intention to head the organisation by the end of the week. Vega has also called on UEFA president Michel Platini to "concentrate on retaining the UEFA job". Vega, who established a successful finance career after retiring from the game, told The Guardian: "The last few years I've been really distanced. "I'm still in the finance world, advising lots of European clubs from a financial point of view, balance sheets, restructuring. Vega on Platini "There are people who have an interest in getting this sorted out in a manner where tranquility and stability can follow. "You need a nuclear scenario, a clean break from the past." Vega clearly believes this does not involve Platini who could be barred from running for the FIFA presidency depending on the exact length of his suspension. Vega added: "The block that has been happening through the Platini scenario has not allowed a debate to develop. "He needs to stand back, put his hands up and concentrate on retaining the UEFA job. "At the moment the governing body of UEFA has the potential to put forward a good candidate and it is being blocked through loyalty to Platini. "There is nothing wrong with loyalty but it has to go hand in hand with common sense."

How England’s players rated v Lithuania

JACK BUTLAND: Having played as a goalkeeper in matches my team was dominating, I can guarantee that Butland was a) daydreaming about his tea and b) hoping Lithuania broke through at least once. So he will have been pleased to warm his gloves with a save to deny Lukas Spalvis. First competitive start; first competitive clean sheet. KYLE WALKER: His first competitive start in two years and he did little to suggest that his next competitive start will come along any quicker. If only his brain was as quick as his legs – showing too much of the ball to the opposition is like a nervous tic he just can’t stop. Struggled to make an impact creatively when both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana were trying to operate in the same space, but his weighted pass for the former’s goal was a rare moment of true quality. PHIL JONES: It was his fifth start for England in 12 months – in three different positions. Which just about sums up Jones’ injury problems, his versatility and Roy Hodgson’s determination to shoehorn him in somewhere. Barely tested defensively and found the space to meander forward on occasion against Lithuania – not sure we would want him to be doing that from centre-half against better opposition. Actually, we are very sure we would not.

PHIL JAGIELKA: Just when we thought Jagielka was being eased out of the England set-up, he finds some excellent club form and looks assured for country. Showed poise, leadership and an excellent range of passing in Vilnius. Can you tell I made absolutely no notes on Jagielka during 90 minutes? KIERAN GIBBS: England’s third left-back of the season is probably fourth choice if you throw Leighton Baines into the mix; he should probably be fifth choice behind Aaron Cresswell. Has barely played for Arsenal this season and it shows – he looks hesitant and limited. End of Season discount soccer shoes , please click

JONJO SHELVEY: Touched the ball more than anybody else on the pitch and yet it’s difficult to remember a really positive contribution. The surface really did not suit his love of a raking ball and with his natural game already curbed by playing deeper, this was not a match to showcase the best of Shelvey. Hodgson persists with the idea of pushing a box-to-box midfielder (Wilshere, Milner, Shelvey) into a deeper position, but should we be looking instead at a natural spoiler? Eric Dier and Jack Cork are names that spring to mind. ROSS BARKLEY: There are those who took Matt Stead’s piece on Ross Barkley this week as unfair criticism of a talented young player, but the criticism was aimed at a media that is so desperate for the next Paul Gascoigne/Wayne Rooney that they have anointed Barkley long before he has put together a consistently excellent three months, never mind a whole season. Barkley was again impressive against Lithuania, his quick feet finding something in common with the surface, and his goal – though deflected – was just reward for his ability to find space and shoot with either foot from the edge of the box. Now we want to see it against opposition that does not fall for every feint and shoulder-drop.

"The best thing about living in Manchester is that it has a very 'British' atmosphere, very English," Mata told El Pais. As for the architecture, it's a very English city. "There are galleries, museums, good restaurants - The only down side is the weather. I adapted really well because I had already lived in London. Now I've spent five years in England and it's gone really quickly."

Having arrived at Chelsea from Valencia in 2011, Mata spent three years living in London before making the move to Manchester. Despite enjoying his time in the capital, the midfielder feels more at home in the "laid back" city of Manchester. "It only seems like yesterday when I was in Valencia. I'm really happy with how it's all turned out," he added. "London is fantastic - it's like various cities in one but it moves so quickly - at a thousand miles an hour, it's a bit crazy. Manchester is more laid back, it's a normal city. "I am very happy in Manchester. I have the feeling that I have only just arrived and I've got a lot of things I want to do."

Chris Coleman: No request from Real Madrid to rest Gareth Bale against Andorra

Chris Coleman has denied reports that suggest Real Madrid have asked Wales to rest Gareth Bale against Andorra on Tuesday. Wales have already confirmed their qualification for Euro 2016 and Madrid were rumoured to be upset at Bale's inclusion in the squad for the final Group B fixture. The Spanish giants have already seen striker Karim Benzema sidelined for up to three weeks with a leg injury whilst on international duty with France. LithuaniavEngland Harry Kane to Score and England to Win in 90 Mins7/4 LithuaniavEngland Ross Barkley to score first and England to win 2-155/1 Bet nowBet £5 get £20 free However, Coleman denied that any such request had been made and went on to reveal that Madrid's manager, Rafael Benitez, had sent the Welsh coaching staff a congratulatory text after the Bosnia game. "There's been no demand from Real Madrid on if he starts how long he will play," said Wales boss Coleman. "Real Madrid have always been first class." Wales are still searching for high-profile opposition in November and Ronaldo's Portugal side may be an option. "Portugal would be a good one but they could be part of a mini-tournament in Miami," Coleman said. We would want it in Cardiff and it's possibly a good time to go the Millennium Stadium and play in front of a big crowd."

Chris Coleman: Welsh football needs to change

The 45 year-old is contracted until after next summer's European Championship and is expected to begin talks soon about a potential extension. "We're on the way to France and nothing would make me leave Wales now," said Coleman, speaking ahead of Tuesday's final Group B match against Andorra. Coleman is due to begin talks that would keep him as Wales' manager until 2018. Coleman is due to begin talks that would keep him as Wales' manager until 2018. "But we need to make changes - about staff and how we run the structure - because we need to keep pushing forward even though we've qualified. "You can never be in a position where you feel comfortable because once that happens you never keep achieving. "So it's up to me to rattle a few cages and say 'okay, we've done that, but to get there we need to change certain things'. "That plan may backfire, but if you want to be original you've got to be prepared to take criticism and do something you really believe in." Chris Coleman guided Wales to Euro 2016 qualification, their first major tournament in over 50 years. Chris Coleman admits he may have to "rattle a few cages" in Welsh football in order to improve the fortunes of the national side. The former Fulham manager insists administrative changes need to be made by the Welsh FA if the country is to remain competitive in international football. Coleman successfully guided Wales to Euro 2016 qualification on Saturday - the country's first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

Newcastle manager Steve McClaren praised the attitude of his team against Chelsea

End of Season discount soccer shoes , please clickSteve McClaren was very pleased with Newcastle's performance against Chelsea, even though the result wasn't what they wanted Steve McClaren praised the attitude of his Newcastle team after their 2-2 draw with Chelsea at St James' Park. The result means McClaren and Newcastle are still without a league win this season and are currently sitting second from bottom of the table. Having led 2-0 it looked like that winless run was coming to an end, but despite Chelsea's comeback the Newcastle boss was full of praise for his side.In the end the result is a disappointment but the way we played and the way we responded after this week was excellent. "We said to the players: 'End the week well with a performance and show what you can do.' We did that and to a man their attitude was magnificent." The former England manager also dismissed talk of a crisis at the club and believes the return of summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic from suspension can be a real boost for Newcastle.People tend to overreact. People forget we've missed Mitrovic for three matches," added McClaren. "We didn't have a centre forward because Papiss Cisse was injured and Ivan Toney is still a young boy. You need that target man to play off and we've not really had that. "We've tried to play through but it's not been successful whereas today we had a target. Mitrovic was a constant thorn in the side of Chelsea's back four."
